"Say You" was taken from a U-Roy version, therefore are the writer credits. U-Roy is toasting over a Naggo Morris 1976 remake of the famous Ken Boothe song from 1968 which was written by Harris Seaton as it can be seen on the label on this release: Ken Boothe, Lyn Taitt & The Jets* / Lyn Taitt & The Jets* - Say You / Smokey Place. However it's complicated, the real original version is written by Robert Dobyne, Robert Staunton and Charles Jones. The first recording was made by The Temptations in 1965.I like the Colourbox version of this tune. In 1984 I visited my first Reggae concert and started listening carefully to Reggae on radio, before that there was Reggae around, but I wasn't really aware of it.
Great. Thanks. Nice version of the Jacob Miller/Augustus Pablo killer... not that heavy, but nice. :-)
RasClaude, a very thorough run through of the song & its various versions-Donovan's rather weak 'digi-reggae' take on it ,produced by Jack Ruby has (L)Taitt named as composer...Worth mentioning Colourbox also released their 12" version of 'Baby,I love you so'...though with its lack of vocals it does sound more like 'Pablos '....meets rockers uptown'..
"Say you" > remake of Lynn Tait & The Jets Say You / Smokey Places / Ken Boothe Say You / Jackie Robinson Say You.
Fast Dump is the track for me...An electro dubby type thing. Wouldn't be out of place on a Streetsounds compilation: Electro Dubby Type Things Box Set 1. Sounds well dated now, but then so do I.
