This for me is the best Eric B & Rakim track by a country mile. From the moment the double bass kicks off in the song it's just an absolute explosion of sound with the best bassline in hip hop history in my opinion. It took me years to find this record, and I love it so much I had to have 2 copies. The song is from the 1991 film JUICE starring 2PAC. The lyrics of Know The ledge fit to the script of the film so well. They tell the story of a man's stuggle to gain respect through any means and the downfall that it eventually brings. Powerful lyrics & amazing production make for what has to be one of the greatest records of all time.
Totally agree. Amazing through and through, a perfect distillation of everything that made EB&R's harder songs so incredible. You can hear how much this song influenced later electronic groups like The Chemical Brothers. That huuuuge beat and bassline, the funky hits on top of it, the perfectly timed transitions and drops. CLASSIC.
