Gel-Sol - Unifactor FLAC

I’ve been following Gel-Sol’s work for a while now and I have to say this release in particular is one of my favorites of his. Sure, it’s filled with fun sample taken from various tv show and movies like Star Trek but that’s what I like about it. It takes me back to the time of listening to the Orb’s early releases where even the Orb sampled a Oxy zit tv commercial in “Star 6 & 7 8 9 (Phase II)”.
The beats come in nicely by track 2 “Brontosaur Yu” with some nice keyboard melodies dropped in. “Propulsion” kind of reminds me of Pink Floyd’s “Run” and I’m sure Mr. Gel-Sol has been influenced by Pink Floyd after listening to his other works. “On a Clear Day You Can See the Answer” heads in a more down tempo direction and “Slowjob” slows everything down to a nice ambient vibe. Fans of early 90’s electronica will dig this release as it recaptures all that was great about what was happening on labels like Waveform, EM:T, ZoëMagik Records, Planet Dog. Speaking of Planet Dog / Waveform “3c273” brings on the dub vibe to this release.
“Ohne Schläge” brings everything to a grinding halt as this album feels like it’s divided into 3 parts and this is the beginning of part 3. The track is filled with strange samples and unworldly sounds that make this CD stand out on its own and will stand the test of time. “Saying Goodbye is Never Easy” has a “radio announcer” that recalls the greatness of the radio evangelist you hear sampled in the KLF’s landmark classic Chill Out album from 1990. So, as I’ve mentioned earlier in this review fans of the Orb’s first two albums and the KLF’s Chill Out will find a lot to enjoy on Gel-Sol’s Unifactor! The title track “Unifactor” ends the album nicely with deep lush ambient landscapes. This release is definitely a keeper in my collection! A+

This is the first album I've listened to by this artist. I will give another one a try but in a nutshell, it's decent but forgetable background music that is completely ruined by a bombardment of voice samples. One track has music on it but you can't pay attention to it because there's a voice sample saying "please repeat" around 25 times in the duration of a 5 or so minute song.

These samples aren't even witty or interesting.

One thing about the presentation on Discogs I dislike, the recommended albums for this one are a lot of very good albums that sound absolutely nothing like this. That strikes me as disingenuous.
